Tech Tools & Middle School Books
At the start of the 2020 school year, when it was announced that the Troy School District would be starting the year with virtual learning, the TFEE quickly realized we would not be able to proceed with our traditional grant program. We reached out to the Troy School District and offered to help however we could. Together, we developed a plan to offer teachers the opportunity to choose from a menu of items that would aid them as they pivoted to teaching remotely. From document cameras, to rolling carts, and styluses to wireless keyboards, these tools made the switch to remote teaching a little easier for the TSD staff.
As the year moved on, the TFEE Trustees realized that the time was still not right to ask teachers for grant ideas. We once again reached out to TSD and together developed a plan to offer classroom libraries to TSD Middle School Teachers. Teachers, literacy specialists and the teaching and learning department worked to suggest titles that would be appropriate for Middle School classrooms, and from these suggestions, 24 collections of titles compiled. Teachers, including Special Education teachers, had the opportunity to select one collection for every one hour of English or Language Arts they teach. The TFEE is so proud to have been able to provide several thousand new books for Troy School District Students!
